AZ Alkmaar are nicknamed "The Cheese Farmers"

Not read through the thread, but apparently we could still be at home second leg of semi.

If Anderlecht win and the Belgian team Union win in the Europa we would be at home second leg.

Why would that change?

Nice distraction from the league. A major factor behind Moyes keeping his job so bittersweet in some ways.

Would be great to win something but financially a tiny fraction of reward as compared to losing Premiership status.

Also there are dozens of flights from different airports to amsterdam. It's not like one of those places where there is one or two flights and they're booked in seconds.

Very little accommodation in Alkmaar though so I've booked mine there and in Prague on fully refundable rates in case we do get there.

Whereas loads of accommodation in Brussels so not really necessary for Anderlecht potential match.

Possibly, as they'll shoot up.

I wouldn't.

Would anyone book that flight now ayway, even assuming we progress Anderlecht could definitely beat Alkmaar?

Looks very unlikely doesn't it.

But if any have booked flights to Amsterdam or are thinking of doing so it may be worth holding off.

I can't see both those results panning out somehow, but interesting all the same.

Would it surprise you to see the current red hot favourites, who've always been first or second favourites throughout the tournament, making the final and possibly winning it, feet son?

Add 360 to the list of miserable cunts on here who can’t get a single ounce of joy out of us being in a European QF

Ok nothing with West Ham is an certain win, but we have handled teams from the Belgium league and should beat Gent in the 1/4 without too much trouble. With essentially out B team we beat Anderlecht home and away and last year we beat Genk home and away.

There were a lot of kids and tourists on Thursday but they seemed animated enough and deffo enjoyed it.

It’ll be rocking when there’s a tie still in the balance. Of course Thursday was a bit muted/weird. Everyone knew we were going to win at a stroll before a ball was even kicked. It was a formality.

Was like a library the other night. I know the away leg there was plenty of noise, but the atmosphere at home needs to improve big time. This now looks a real winnable competition, more so than last season, and making it a bit more intimidating over the bowl (as hard as that is) will certainly help. Save the apathy for the league games….

Re: Europa Conference League QF and SF draw Gent (Belgium) [Then AZ Alkmaar/Anderlecht]
Genk are top of the Belgium league. We are near the bottom of ours. I think any team at the top of a decent European league would beat us right now.

I don’t think people really understand how shit we are. Our form is terrible.

We can’t even guarantee wins against the teams around us at the bottom. I’m not confident about getting any further in this competition because the opposition we have played so far has been so bad. The next lot will actually be proper football teams.

We have not won a game of football against a proper organised football team in our league since Chelsea in 2021. That’s coming up to nearly a year and a half!

Tell a lie, actually we beat Fulham I think? That’s it.

I don’t think on our current form we could beat Genk or AZ. It’s not our players. We have good players. It’s our coaching and style of play.

Moyes is lucky Cornet and Scamaca are back as they may bail him out here. But on what I’ve seen for a long time we are just a badly coached club .

Looks a good draw, but I'd never heard of Alkmaar. They're 3rd in the Dutch league after Feyenoord and Ajax, just above PSV. They have won last five games in their league, last loss was to Feyenoord. Yes, could be tricky, but all looks possible. The bigger prize for me is getting into the Europa League next year.
